Camp Bowie District, Inc. is a not-for-profit, public improvement led by President, Lisa Powers and a board of committed community leaders. The District was created by commercial property owners in October 2000 to increase prosperity and revitalize Camp Bowie Boulevard. The 9 mile district stretches from University Drive to Loop 820 and encompasses over 800 businesses. The Boulevard is divided into three distinct segments, On the Bricks, Ridglea and Camp Bowie West, each offering its own unique feel.
Today, the organization is committed to creating an inviting, pedestrian-friendly atmosphere that encourages people to shop, dine and enjoy its array of restaurants and retailers in a safe and comfortable environment. Camp Bowie District, Inc. is also responsible for implementing beautification projects, driving traffic to businesses, spurring economic development and hosting special events such as Jazz By The Blvd and Camp Bowie Christmas.
In addition to these efforts, Camp Bowie District, Inc. has recently implemented several other programs along the Boulevard. The “Business Cooperative Security Program” is designed to open lines of communication between businesses and neighborhood police officers in order to deter criminal activity and respond to crime expeditiously. A public arts program is on the horizon with hopes to be unveiled in by Spring 2011. Works from various artists will be placed along the Boulevard and will rotate seasonally.
