The Meat Puppets are back in full force with an extensive tour and new LP release titled Lollipop. Meat Puppets’ unique alternative sound has been noted as having a mix of punk, psychedelic, and country undertones. Numerous legendary bands including Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr., Pavement, and current tour-mates Soundgarden have cited the Meat Puppets as an influence.
While few Meat Puppets songs have reached mainstream media, but they have garnered a large underground fan-base through decades of prolific studio work and tight live shows. In 1993, Kris and Curt Kirkwood joined Nirvana prodigy Kurt Cobain, per his request, on MTV Unplugged for performances of three Meat Puppets songs from Meat Puppets II, an album Pitchfork Media listed as one of the best albums of the 1980s.
After performing at Animal Collective’s All Tomorrow’s Parties in the UK, The Meat Puppets recently returned to the States to tour in support of their 13th studio album, Lollipop. Recorded at Spoon’s Public Hi-fi Studio in Austin, Lollipop features the indelible Kirkwood brothers back at work and back at play on 12 powerful new original cuts.
